A Caterham is not a replica. Caterham bought the 7 rights from Lotus in 1973.
So Lotus could not even build a 7 anymore, even if they wanted to.
A real 7 is or a Lotus or a Caterham, depending on the year.
1957 - 1972: a Lotus 7.
1973 - now : a Caterham 7.
So a Caterham is also the real thing :)

Ah, alrghty then, I'll look toward Caterham then! :D My uncle just handed me the keys to the shop and says I can do what I please with it, I'm just so excited, I want to get a project up and started immediately!!! lol

Lotus stopped offering Super7s a few decades ago. But there are lots of good replicas.
Caterham is the oldest replica builder. They started out building exact replicas using the tools from Lotus, and have evolved the car from there. They aren't that cheap either. But you can get them as a kit, and quality is top notch.
Others offer kits based on old donor cars like the bmw 3series or Ford Escort/Sierra, and transplant the mechanics to your Super7 chassis.
Search the term "locost".

Ah I see now, so it would be better to just buy it assembled then. Well, I'd at least get the joy of driving one lol Guess I'll just make a replica to pass up some time, I just want something that will consume alot of my time lol Thought, 'Why not Donkervoort, they make the cars I like and wouldn't mind working on one of those beauties!' but yea, after what you told me, I would be better to just buy it right out lol
Hmm what about Lotus though? Are the Super Se7ens mass produced or hand made?

The chassis is has special copper welds, so that won't be cheap. The body panels are hand beaten, and the engine is extensively modified to fit the Donkervoort. The interior is custom made for each individual car. So even if they do send you the car in pieces, it won't be cheap, and it won't be a straight forward build.

You can try, but I doubt they'll send you a chassis. Donkervoort has a very solid reputation. They loose almost no value on the second hand market. The price of a ten year old Donky is not much different from the price of a new one. I don't think Donkervoort will risk this repuation, by letting people build them themselves.

Aw, so even if I called and asked them personally they wouldn't ship it to me in pieces? I just like to assemble the cars I get myself, it's fun and time consuming lol.
As for the GT, saw it, and d@mn is it a beauty! I formally like any car like the Super Se7en or Donkervoort GT great looking cars with even better performance to back it up.

Donkervoort is not a kitcar, and very expensive. On a budget, a Caterham is a better option. But if money is not an issue, a Donkervoort is well worth it.
If you like the pedestrian D8, check out the aerodynamic Donkervoort GT.

My one and only dream car :D its perfect to me in everyway. as for this video, i dont know if the BMW was pacing on purpose as there were a few times he might have been able to pass.
but as for the car, do you or anyone know how much the frame would be? I want one as a project car, building it up myself
I just love how Caterham keeps their classy old look while Donkervoort has some new flare to their style but with the same traditional build and all, tis fantastic!

Pretty amazing how fast the donkey is, despite the driver managing to miss nearly every apex and using only 3/4 of the track width. |
